SYLA through our coaches emphasizes skill development, equitable play, sportsmanship and fun for all athletes. To achieve this we expect our coaches to:

• Come to practice with a plan to get better
• Teach lacrosse skills in an age appropriate way
• Communicate with parents, players and other coaches
• Set appropriate behavioral expectations with the players

All coaches, regardless of experience level, must be BRONZE certified through USA Lacrosse by June 1 of each year. Bronze certification is a basic certification that lays the groundwork for our athletes to have a safe and developmentally focuses lacrosse experience. New for 2026, USA lacrosse may accept similar certifications offered by other organizations to make becoming a certified lacrosse coach easier.
